How we tested

Method: Isolated JOTBUS_HOME under a scratch dir; npm view + CLI help/version; created temporary workspace via script PTY with --agents none --no-install; MCP initialize/tools/list plus list_workspaces, write_workspace, read_workspace, list_files, jotbus_help, and a deliberate bad-workspace write; no login, no agent config edits, no invite shared, no credentials. What works

  • npx jotbus@0.11.0 created a free 60-minute E2E-encrypted workspace with --agents none --no-install (prints MCP add commands only
  • no agent configs touched). MCP over NDJSON stdio (serverInfo jotbus 0.11.0) exposes 9 tools
  • list_workspaces
  • write_workspace
  • read_workspace
  • list_files
  • and jotbus_help worked. Wrote a text note and attached sample file pdftomp3-test-sample.txt (157 B
  • listed with correct name/type). whoami correctly reports not signed in. Bad workspace name returns isError with connected names listed.

What breaks

  • Without a PTY
  • bare `npx jotbus --no-install --agents none` hung ~90s then printed only 'no workspaces connected yet' and created nothing
  • creating a workspace needed a PTY (script) or an interactive terminal. Cross-agent handoff with a second real coding agent
  • inbox/@mention delivery
  • login/claim/persistent plans
  • and invite_to_workspace were not exercised (would need another agent or an account).

Release claims checked

  • verified No account needed for a 60-minute workspace via npx jotbus source
  • verified End-to-end encrypted; list_workspaces reports encrypted:true and key_ok:true (MCP list_workspaces/read_workspace)
  • verified --no-install prints setup instead of registering agents (CLI output listing claude/codex/cursor mcp add commands)
  • unverified Works with any MCP client for cross-agent handoff (site claim; only single-client MCP exercised)
